Welcome to our Tree
Our Tree shows the genealogy of those with our surname (or one of its variants) abstracted from official (and other) records. It is the result of some 35 years' research and co-operation between its authors, the late John McWilliams (1925-2010 of California, USA) and Jim Keppie (1929-2026, Edinburgh, Scotland), working with Census, Local and National Government records as well as those from the IGI (Mormon) and other sources.
Our legacy was the result of over 40 years' work carried out in the period 1896-1942 (in England) by Edward Walter Keppie (1859-1942) who appears, according to surviving correspondence with 'Keppies', to have been the major instigator of our family research.
This is not to deny, however, the efforts of other 'Keppies' towards research into our ancestors - and to whom we are much indebted. Major contributors include Peter Keppie (1860-1935, Scotland), John Carmen Keppy (1908-1974, Canada), Edwin 'Ted' Coyle (1928-2010, Australia) and Robert 'Bob' Keppy (1935-, Canada).
Ted Coyle produced a 'History of the Keppies in Australia' and Raymond 'Ray' Keppie (1939-) provided a complementary Australian computer listing.
Bob Keppy has provided a detailed history of Canadian Keppys (sic).
Other significant contributors include Mary Helen Halgren (née Elliott, 1927-2007, Minnesota, USA); William H. Keppy (1940-93, Dudley, England); Joan Watts (née Keppy, 1935-, Toronto, Canada); and Stuart Keppie (1945-, England) who is progressing the Keppie Family Tree and its website.
Thanks are also due to Niall Keppie (1975-, England) for our website's development and maintenance.
If your contribution has not been specifically referred to here, we hope that you will accept our sincere apologies - and our grateful thanks.
We are also conscious of the work being done by other researchers today and we would appreciate learning of amendments and relevant new information which would enhance our tree.
